Description
Create stunning Borax crystal seashells that combine science and artistry, perfect for decorations and learning.
Ingredients
- Borax (1 cup)
- Water (2 cups)
- Clear glass bowl or container
- String
- Craft sticks or pencil
- Scoop or spoon
- Clean, empty seashells or molds
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the solution: In a clean glass bowl, mix 2 cups of hot water with 1 cup of Borax. Stir gently until the Borax is completely dissolved.
- Attach the string: Cut a piece of string about 12 inches long. Tie one end of the string around your seashell or mold. Secure the other end to a craft stick or pencil that will lie across the top of the bowl.
- Submerge and suspend: Carefully submerge your seashell in the Borax solution, ensuring it hangs without touching the bottom.
- Wait and watch: Set the bowl in a quiet, undisturbed area for about 6-8 hours or overnight. Observe as crystals begin to form on the seashell.
- Remove and dry: Gently lift the seashell out of the solution, rinse it briefly under cold water to remove excess Borax, and set it on a paper towel to dry completely.
Notes
Tip: Experiment with different colors and shapes to customize your crystal seashells.
