Description

Create beautiful, customizable crystal ornaments using Borax and pipe cleaners for a fun and festive holiday project.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 tablespoons of Borax (sodium borate)
  • Pipe cleaners (any color)
  • String or ribbon
  • A microwave-safe container
  • Mixing spoon

Instructions

  1. Bend pipe cleaners into desired shapes or figures (stars, snowflakes, etc.) and create a loop at the top to hang them later.
  2. In a microwave-safe container, heat 1 cup of water until boiling, then remove carefully.
  3. Stir in 3 tablespoons of Borax into the boiling water and mix until fully dissolved.
  4. Place the shaped pipe cleaners into the solution, ensuring they are fully submerged.
  5. Let the mixture cool for at least 6 hours, or preferably overnight, to let the crystals form.
  6. Carefully pull out the pipe cleaner creations and rinse under warm water to remove any excess Borax.
  7. Let the ornaments dry completely and use string or ribbon to hang your stunning crystals on the tree or around the house!

Notes

Ensure supervision when children are crafting and keep Borax out of reach. For added color, consider using food coloring in the boiling water.
