Description

Engage in a delightful craft experience making stunning Borax crystal hearts. Perfect for decorations and gifts, this project combines art and science.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of Borax
  • 3 cups of water
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter or mold
  • Pipe cleaners (in various colors)
  • A glass jar or bowl
  • A stirring stick
  • String (optional, for hanging)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bend the pipe cleaners into a heart shape using more than one color for a beautiful effect.
  2. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a pot.
  3. Carefully add 1 cup of Borax to the boiling water while stirring until fully dissolved.
  4. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the solution and stir gently.
  5. Suspend your shaped pipe cleaner heart in the center of the jar or bowl. Ensure it doesn’t touch the sides.
  6. Allow the jar to sit undisturbed for 6-12 hours to see crystals form around the heart.
  7. Once the crystals have formed to your liking, carefully remove the heart and rinse it in cold water.

Notes

Experiment with different colors and sizes. Consider adding glitter for a sparkling effect!
