Description
A delightful craft project that combines art and science by creating stunning Borax crystal gems. Perfect for all ages and customizable in color and shape.
Ingredients
- Borax (sodium borate)
- Water
- Food coloring (optional)
- Pipe cleaners (various colors)
- A clean glass jar (wide mouth recommended)
- A stirring stick (e.g., a wooden spoon)
- A pencil or string (for suspending the pipe cleaner)
- A pot for boiling water
Instructions
- Prepare Your Pipe Cleaners: Shape pipe cleaners into desired forms (e.g., stars, hearts). Ensure they are not too thick for better crystallization.
- Dissolve the Borax: Boil about 2 cups of water in a pot. Gradually add 3 tablespoons of Borax while stirring until dissolved. Optional: Add food coloring.
- Set Up the Jar: Pour hot Borax solution into the glass jar until about ¾ full. Suspend the shaped pipe cleaner in the jar with a pencil or string.
- Allow the Crystals to Form: Let the jar sit undisturbed overnight to allow crystals to form.
- Retrieve Your Crystals: After 24 hours, remove the pipe cleaner, rinse to remove excess Borax, and let dry.
Notes
Use different food colors and shapes for unique creations. Adjust Borax quantity for larger or smaller crystals. Store crystals in a dry place for longevity.
