Ingredients
- Borax (sodium borate)
- Water
- Clear glass or plastic container
- Pipe cleaners (any color)
- Pencil or stick (for holding pipe cleaners)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Boiling water
- Measuring cup
- Stirring utensil
Instructions
- Bend the pipe cleaners into desired shapes and tie them together or attach them to a pencil for support.
- In a measuring cup, combine 3 cups of boiling water with 1 cup of Borax and stir until dissolved. Add food coloring if desired.
- Pour the Borax solution into your container, ensuring it covers the bottom.
- Suspend the pipe cleaner shapes in the solution using the pencil or stick without letting them touch the bottom or sides of the container.
- Place the container in a cool, undisturbed area and observe the crystals forming over several hours, ideally leaving it overnight for best results.
Notes
Experiment with colors and shapes for personalized designs. Higher Borax concentration may lead to larger crystals.
