Create stunning Borax crystal flowers that bloom with beautiful colors through a fun and educational crystallization process.
Ingredients
- Borax (1 cup)
- Water (3 cups boiling)
- Pipe cleaners (in various colors)
- String or fishing line
- Jar or glass container (quart-sized recommended)
- Pencil or chopstick (for hanging)
- Scissors
- Optional: Food coloring (for dyeing crystals)
Instructions
- Shape the Flowers: Take several pipe cleaners and twist them together to form flower shapes, leaving a length at the bottom for a stem.
- Boil the Water: Carefully bring 3 cups of water to a boil.
- Mix Borax: Gradually stir in 1 cup of Borax until fully dissolved.
- Add Color: If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to tint your crystals.
- Pour the Solution: Pour the hot Borax solution into the jar or glass container.
- Suspend the Flower: Tie a string to the top of the flower bundle and drape it over the pencil/chopstick across the top of the jar.
- Let it Sit: Leave the jar undisturbed for 6-12 hours (or overnight) to allow the crystals to form.
- Admire Your Work: Gently remove the flower and rinse it in cold water to remove excess Borax.
- Dry: Allow the flower to dry completely on a paper towel.
- Show Off: Find a lovely spot to display your beautiful crystal flower.
