Description

Transform simple materials into stunning Borax crystal flowers, a captivating craft that combines art and science.

Ingredients

  • Borax (1/2 cup)
  • Water (2 cups, boiling)
  • Pipe cleaners (in various colors)
  • A glass jar (wide mouth)
  • String (optional, for hanging)
  • Pencil or stick (for suspending flowers)
  • Food coloring (optional, for vibrant hues)

Instructions

  1. Twist pipe cleaners into flower shapes, using multiple colors for flair.
  2. Boil 2 cups of water in a pot until it reaches a rolling boil.
  3. Slowly add 1/2 cup of Borax into the boiling water, stirring continuously until dissolved.
  4. If desired, add food coloring to the mixture and stir well.
  5. Tie a string around the flower structure and place a pencil or stick across the top of the jar.
  6. Hang the flower in the jar without touching the sides.
  7. Let the jar sit undisturbed overnight (or up to 24 hours) for crystals to form.
  8. Once crystals have formed, carefully remove the flower from the jar and rinse with water to remove excess Borax.

Notes

Experiment with different colors and shapes for unique crystal flowers. Keep the crystals dry for longevity.
