Description
Create stunning borax crystal flowers in a fun and educational crafting experience that combines art and science.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup borax
- Boiling water
- Clear glass jar
- Pipe cleaners (various colors)
- Pencil or stick for hanging
- Scissors
- String
Instructions
- Shape Your Flowers: Take three pipe cleaners and twist them together to create a bouquet shape. Form the ends into petals and leaves as desired.
- Prepare the Solution: In a clear glass jar, carefully pour in 1/2 cup of boiling water. Slowly add the borax while stirring until completely dissolved. You may need about 3 tablespoons more borax for full saturation.
- Set Up the Crystallization: Tie a string to the center of your flower bouquet. Suspend the bouquet in the borax solution using a pencil or stick to keep it centered and submerged.
- Wait: Allow the flower to sit undisturbed for 6-24 hours. During this time, crystals will form on the pipe cleaners. Observe the process as larger crystals begin to take shape.
- Remove and Dry: After the time has passed, gently remove the flowers from the solution. Let them dry on a paper towel to remove any excess solution.
Notes
Add food coloring for colorful crystals. Experiment with different shapes and multi-colored flowers for variety.
