Description
Create beautiful and colorful Borax crystal flowers in this engaging and educational craft project that combines science with creativity.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of water
- 3 tablespoons of Borax (sodium borate)
- Pipe cleaners (various colors)
- A clean glass jar or container
- String (optional)
- Pencil or stick (for hanging the flowers)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Scissors
Instructions
- Shape your pipe cleaners into flower shapes and twist them to create petals and a stem.
- In a pot, heat 1 cup of water until it’s just boiling, then gradually add 3 tablespoons of Borax, stirring until it dissolves completely.
- If desired, mix a few drops of food coloring into the hot Borax solution.
- If using string, tie it to the flower and attach it to a pencil or stick. Place the flower in the jar, ensuring it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom.
- Pour the Borax solution carefully into the jar, covering the flower completely. Set it in a cool, undisturbed place overnight.
- After 6-24 hours, check your flowers, remove them from the solution, and let them dry on a paper towel.
Notes
Use different colored pipe cleaners for vibrant flowers and consider adding glitter to the solution for a sparkly effect.
