Description

Create beautiful and colorful Borax crystal flowers in this engaging and educational craft project that combines science with creativity.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 tablespoons of Borax (sodium borate)
  • Pipe cleaners (various colors)
  • A clean glass jar or container
  • String (optional)
  • Pencil or stick (for hanging the flowers)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Shape your pipe cleaners into flower shapes and twist them to create petals and a stem.
  2. In a pot, heat 1 cup of water until it’s just boiling, then gradually add 3 tablespoons of Borax, stirring until it dissolves completely.
  3. If desired, mix a few drops of food coloring into the hot Borax solution.
  4. If using string, tie it to the flower and attach it to a pencil or stick. Place the flower in the jar, ensuring it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom.
  5. Pour the Borax solution carefully into the jar, covering the flower completely. Set it in a cool, undisturbed place overnight.
  6. After 6-24 hours, check your flowers, remove them from the solution, and let them dry on a paper towel.

Notes

Use different colored pipe cleaners for vibrant flowers and consider adding glitter to the solution for a sparkly effect.
