Description

Craft beautiful Borax crystal eggshells that are visually stunning and educational. A perfect project for all ages!

Ingredients

Scale
  • Clean eggshells (emptied and rinsed)
  • 1/2 cup Borax powder
  • 2 cups hot water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Small container or jar
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Heat-resistant surface
  • Paper towels for cleanup

Instructions

  1. Carefully crack the eggs and remove the contents, leaving the shells intact. Rinse the eggshells with water to remove any residue, then let them dry.
  2. In a container, mix 1/2 cup of Borax powder with 2 cups of hot water and stir until dissolved.
  3. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the solution and stir gently.
  4. Place the cleaned eggshells in a heat-resistant container and pour the Borax solution into the container, ensuring the eggshells are covered.
  5. Leave your container in a quiet, undisturbed space for several days and observe the growth of crystals as they form inside the shells.
  6. Once the crystals have formed to your liking, carefully remove the eggshells from the solution and allow them to dry on a paper towel before displaying.

Notes

For unique crystal designs, experiment with different food coloring combinations and try using larger containers or different types of shells.
