Ingredients
- Clear jar or bottle with a lid
- Water
- Vegetable oil (or any light oil)
- Food coloring (any color)
- Alka-Seltzer tablets (or baking soda and vinegar)
- Optional: Glitter or small decorative items
Instructions
- Fill the jar about one-quarter full with water.
- Slowly pour vegetable oil into the jar until almost full, observing how the oil floats above the water.
- Add a few drops of food coloring and watch it disperse in the water.
- If desired, add glitter or small decorative items.
- Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into quarters and drop one piece into the jar to activate the lava lamp effect.
- For continuous bubbles, add more pieces of the tablet as needed.
Notes
Experiment with different food coloring combinations and other liquids like corn syrup for varied effects. Adding essential oils can enhance the scent.
