Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups birdseed (mix of your choice)
- 1 package (1/4 oz) unflavored gelatin
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- Twine or string (for hanging)
- Cookie cutters (your choice of shapes)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Supplies: Gather all ingredients and tools in one place, and lay out parchment paper on your work surface to catch drips.
- Mix the Gelatin: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the warm water and unflavored gelatin, stirring until fully dissolved.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the corn syrup into the bowl and mix well, then gradually fold in the birdseed until evenly coated.
- Shape the Ornaments: Spoon the mixture into your cookie cutters placed on the parchment paper and press down firmly to compact the birdseed.
- Add the Twine: Before the mixture sets, insert a piece of twine into the top of each ornament for hanging.
- Let It Dry: Allow the ornaments to dry completely for 24 hours, then gently remove them from the cookie cutters.
- Hang and Enjoy: Hang your birdseed ornaments on outdoor trees and enjoy watching the birds feast!
Notes
Consider using different seeds or nuts to attract various bird species. Dried herbs can also be added for a lovely scent. Store unused mixture in an airtight container for up to a week.
