Description
Create stunning and eco-friendly bioplastic suncatchers that brighten your home and reflect your creativity.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup glycerin
- Food coloring (assorted colors)
- Mixing bowls
- Cooking pot
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper or silicone mat
- Scissors
- Toothpicks or craft sticks (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Work Area: Clear a flat surface to work on, and lay down parchment paper. Gather all materials within reach.
- Mix the Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, water, and glycerin. Stir well until you achieve a smooth, lump-free mixture.
- Cook the Mixture: Pour the mixture into a cooking pot. Heat over medium heat, stirring continuously until it thickens (about 3-5 minutes). The mixture will become transparent and gel-like.
- Color Your Mixture: Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Divide the mixture into separate bowls for different colors. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, mixing well to achieve your desired shades.
- Shape Your Suncatchers: Pour colored mixtures onto the prepared baking sheet. Use a spatula to spread them evenly, creating various shapes (like circles or hearts). Optionally, use toothpicks or craft sticks to create designs or patterns.
- Drying Process: Leave your suncatchers to dry for at least 24 hours until they are firm and no longer sticky. Carefully peel them off the parchment paper once dry.
Notes
Consider swapping glycerin with vegetable oil for a different texture or adding glitter for visual interest.
