Description

Create vibrant and eco-friendly bioplastic suncatchers to brighten up your windows while learning about sustainability.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons of corn syrup
  • 1 cup of water
  • Food coloring
  • Wax paper or silicone mat
  • Cookie cutters or molds
  • Paintbrush
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven (optional for quick drying)
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, mix cornstarch, corn syrup, and water over medium heat.
  2. Whisk until cornstarch dissolves and thickens into a gel-like consistency.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in desired food coloring.
  4. Spread the mixture evenly on wax paper or silicone mat to about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Use cookie cutters or molds to cut fun shapes and leave a small hole at the top for hanging.
  6. Preheat the oven to 200°F and bake for 1-2 hours or allow to air-dry for 1-3 days.
  7. Once dry, gently peel off the mat or paper and trim any rough edges with scissors.
  8. Use string or natural twine to hang your suncatchers in a sunny window.

Notes

Experiment with colors and shapes to personalize your suncatchers. Consider using biodegradable glitter for added sparkle.
