Description

Create beautiful and colorful bioplastic suncatchers using easily accessible ingredients to brighten up your space while promoting sustainability.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Wax paper
  • Cookie cutters or templates
  • A heat source (stovetop)
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Cooking spray (optional for easy removal)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, glycerin, and cornstarch. Stir until the cornstarch dissolves.
  2. Place the saucepan on low heat and continuously stir the mixture as it warms up until it thickens.
  3. Once thickened, remove from heat, divide into bowls, and add food coloring. Stir until colors are evenly distributed.
  4. Place wax paper on a flat surface. Use cookie cutters or pour colored mixtures into desired shapes on the wax paper.
  5. Allow the suncatchers to dry for at least 24 hours. Peel them off the wax paper once fully dried.
  6. Hang your suncatchers by a window using string or tape to see the colorful reflections.

Notes

For various designs, try using different cookie cutters, mixing colors, or embedding dried flowers or glitter.
