- 1 cup corn starch
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Wax paper or silicone baking mat
- Rolling pin
- Scissors
- Shape cutters (optional)
- String or wire for hanging (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your bioplastic mixture by combining corn starch, vinegar, and corn syrup in a saucepan over low heat until thickened (about 5 minutes).
- Add a few drops of food coloring to the thickened mixture and stir well.
- Place the wax paper or silicone baking mat on a flat surface and spoon out the colored mixture, flattening it evenly to about ¼ inch thick with a rolling pin.
- Cut out designs using shape cutters or scissors, making a hole at the top for hanging if desired.
- Let the suncatchers dry on the mat for 24 hours, then carefully peel them off.
- Hang your suncatchers in windows or gardens and enjoy the sunlight shining through your creations.
Notes
For tie-dye effects, mix different food colors. You can also use natural dyes for a more organic look. Store suncatchers in a cool, dry place for longevity.
