Description
Create stunning and eco-friendly bioplastic sun catchers that can brighten your living space while learning about sustainability.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of corn starch
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of corn syrup
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Cookie cutters or molds
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Oven or microwave
- Paintbrush (optional)
- Scissors (to trim edges if necessary)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of corn starch, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of corn syrup. Heat the mixture over medium heat while stirring continuously until it thickens (3-5 minutes). Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
- Once the mixture is cool enough to handle, divide it into separate bowls for different colors. Add food coloring to each bowl and mix until desired shades are achieved.
- On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, use cookie cutters or molds to create shapes from the colored bioplastic, leaving them about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 175°F (80°C) for 1-2 hours, or allow them to air-dry for 24-48 hours.
- Once dry, carefully remove the sun catchers from the parchment paper and trim any uneven edges if desired.
Notes
Experiment with different shapes, layering colors, or adding glitter for a unique touch. Store any unused bioplastic mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
