Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (assorted colors)
  • Piping bags or squeeze bottles
  • Wax paper or parchment paper
  • Small paintbrush (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Heat over medium heat, stirring until all sugar dissolves.
  2. Bring to a boil without stirring, allowing it to reach 300°F (hard crack stage).
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Divide into separate bowls and add food coloring as desired.
  4. Lay down wax paper on a flat surface. Pipe large butterfly shapes, including wings and bodies.
  5. Cool until hardened, about 30 minutes.

Notes

For additional flavors, substitute vanilla with almond or lemon extract. You can also add sprinkles immediately after piping.
