- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 teaspoons corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (assorted colors)
- Piping bags or squeeze bottles
- Wax paper or parchment paper
- Small paintbrush (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Heat over medium heat, stirring until all sugar dissolves.
- Bring to a boil without stirring, allowing it to reach 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Divide into separate bowls and add food coloring as desired.
- Lay down wax paper on a flat surface. Pipe large butterfly shapes, including wings and bodies.
- Cool until hardened, about 30 minutes.
Notes
For additional flavors, substitute vanilla with almond or lemon extract. You can also add sprinkles immediately after piping.
