Description

An engaging and educational project that demonstrates chemical reactions using common household items to create a mini-explosion of fizz and vibrant colors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • A clear plastic bottle (or small container)
  • Small tray or dish to catch overflow
  • Funnel (optional for easy pouring)

Instructions

  1. Set up your station: Place the clear plastic bottle on the small tray or dish to catch any spills.
  2. Gather your materials: Have all the materials handy before you begin.
  3. Add baking soda: Use the funnel to pour about 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda into the bottle.
  4. Add food coloring: Drop in several drops of food coloring to create your desired colors. Swirl gently to mix.
  5. Pour in vinegar: Quickly pour about 1/2 cup of vinegar into the bottle. Step back immediately!
  6. Watch the explosion: Observe as the mixture fizzes and bubbles, overflowing like fireworks shooting into the sky. Enjoy the vibrant colors!

Notes

Conduct this experiment outdoors or over a sink to minimize cleanup. Adult supervision is recommended for younger children.
