Description

An engaging craft project that combines art and science using baking soda to create beautiful, tree-like structures.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • A shallow dish or tray
  • Toothpicks or skewers
  • Small pieces of cardboard (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Base: Pour 1 cup of baking soda into the shallow dish. Add 1/2 cup of water and mix until it reaches a thick, paste-like consistency.
  2. Create the Solution: In a separate cup, combine 1 cup of vinegar with 2 tablespoons of corn syrup. For vibrant trees, add food coloring if desired.
  3. Combine the Mixtures: Slowly pour the vinegar solution into the baking soda paste and watch the exciting foam reaction.
  4. Form the Trees: After the reaction subsides, use toothpicks or skewers to shape the mixture into tree trunks and branches.
  5. Let it Dry: Allow your creation to dry for several hours or overnight, watching crystals form that resemble tree bark.

Notes

You can substitute corn syrup with honey or sugar syrup. Experiment with colors and shapes for unique designs!
