Description

Craft colorful treasure rocks using simple ingredients for a fun science and art project.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Small, treasure-like items (e.g., plastic gems, coins, or small toys)
  • Silicone molds or cupcake liners
  • Vinegar (for the reaction)
  • Baking tray (for drying)
  • Spoon for mixing

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of water and stir until achieving a paste-like consistency.
  2. Divide the paste into separate bowls for multiple colors and add food coloring, mixing until evenly colored.
  3. Place small treasures into the bottom of silicone molds before adding the baking soda mixture.
  4. Spoon the colored mixture into the molds, covering the treasures and packing it tightly.
  5. Let the molds dry overnight on a baking tray at room temperature.
  6. Once dry, carefully remove the treasure rocks from the molds and enjoy them as decorations or for a treasure hunt!

Notes

Experiment with different shapes and colors, and even add essential oils for a scented twist.
