Description

An engaging craft project that demonstrates a fun chemical reaction while creating a snowy tree.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tsp liquid dish soap
  • Cardboard or paper plate
  • Plastic tree or small cone-shaped object
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Small bowls for mixing

Instructions

  1. Prepare your base by placing the cardboard or paper plate on a flat surface and centering your plastic tree or cone-shaped object on the plate.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1/4 cup of warm water and mix until a thick paste forms.
  3. Using your hands or a spatula, coat the tree or cone shape with the baking soda paste, ensuring it’s thickly covered.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 1 tsp of liquid dish soap, adding food coloring if desired. Slowly pour this mixture over the coated tree.
  5. Watch the reaction as the baking soda and vinegar create effervescence, making the “snow” appear to grow!

Notes

Consider creating multiple trees with different colors and sizes for a themed display.
