Description
Make your very own festive baking soda reindeer ornaments with this easy and fun DIY project, perfect for family bonding.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- Cookie cutters (reindeer-shaped)
- Rolling pin
- Oven
- Paint (brown, black, and red)
- Paintbrushes
- Twine or ribbon for hanging
- Optional: googly eyes or other embellishments
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Watch the mixture fizz and bubble!
- Once the fizzing stops, mix in 1/4 cup of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water to form a dough.
- Sprinkle some cornstarch on your surface to prevent sticking. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Using the reindeer-shaped cookie cutters, cut out as many shapes as you can and lift each shape onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Punch a hole at the top of each ornament for hanging using a straw or a skewer.
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (93 degrees Celsius) and bake ornaments for about 1-2 hours until hard. Allow them to cool completely after baking.
- Once cooled, paint your reindeer with brown for the body, black for the eyes, and red for the nose; let the paint dry thoroughly. Optional: Glue on googly eyes for added charm.
- Thread twine or ribbon through the hole and hang your beautiful reindeer ornaments!
