Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Mixing bowl
  • Saucepan
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters (optional)
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • String or ribbon for hanging (optional)
  • Acrylic paint or markers for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup cornstarch, and 3/4 cup water. Stir until well combined and the mixture resembles a paste.
  2. Pour the mixture into a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until it thickens and forms a dough (about 3-5 minutes). Remove from heat once it clumps together.
  3. Let the dough cool for a few minutes until it’s manageable. Knead the dough on a clean surface until smooth.
  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick using a rolling pin. Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes—stars, hearts, or holiday symbols. Use a straw or a skewer to poke holes for hanging (if desired).
  5. Preheat your oven to 175°F (80°C). Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 1-2 hours until firm. Turn off the oven and let them cool inside for another hour.
  6. Once cooled, paint or decorate your ornaments as desired. Thread string or ribbon through the holes for hanging.

Notes

For custom scents, add essential oils to the dough. Use food coloring for vibrant colors and sprinkle glitter before baking for a sparkly finish.
