Description

Create beautiful tree sculptures using baking soda and vinegar in a fun, interactive, and educational craft.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Small plastic cups or bowls
  • Toothpicks or small sticks (for tree trunks)
  • Tray or baking sheet (to catch spills)
  • Paper towels (for cleanup)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of water and stir until it forms a thick paste.
  2. Use your hands to mold the paste into tree shapes, making thicker bases for stability. Insert toothpicks or small sticks into the bases for the trunks.
  3. If desired, mix in a few drops of food coloring into the tree shapes for a vibrant effect.
  4. Place your shaped trees on a tray or baking sheet to catch any overflow. Slowly pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar over the trees to trigger the fizzy reaction.
  5. Enjoy the visual spectacle as the trees ‘grow’ with the bubbling reaction! Let them sit for a while to observe the changes.

Notes

Experiment with different shapes, colors, and add glitter for a festive look. Work in an easy-to-clean area.
