Description

Create beautiful and textured snowflake ornaments using simple baking ingredients while learning about chemical reactions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • Baking tray or parchment paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Optional: food coloring, glitter, or sequins for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with ½ cup of white vinegar and watch the mixture fizz and bubble.
  2. Once the fizzing subsides, add 1 tablespoon of corn syrup to the mixture, stirring until it becomes thicker and gooey.
  3. Line your baking tray with parchment paper. Scoop the mixture using a spoon and shape it into snowflakes on the tray.
  4. Allow the ornaments to dry in a cool, dry place for at least 24 hours to harden.
  5. Once fully dry, decorate with optional food coloring, glitter, or sequins.

Notes

Use cookie cutters for different shapes and swap corn syrup for honey for a different texture.
