Description
Charming and customizable baking soda glow ornaments for the holiday season, perfect for family bonding and festive decor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 3/4 cup water
- Cookie cutters (various shapes)
- Light string (battery-operated recommended)
- Bowl for mixing
- Non-stick baking sheet
- Rolling pin
- Paintbrush (optional)
- Glow-in-the-dark paint (optional)
- String or ribbon for hanging
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the baking soda, cornstarch, and water. Mix well until it forms a smooth paste.
- Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until it thickens and pulls away from the sides (about 5-8 minutes).
- Let the mixture cool slightly before handling. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough on a non-stick baking sheet. Use cookie cutters to create various shapes.
- Gently poke a hole at the top of each ornament for the string. Allow them to dry for at least 24 hours to harden.
- Once dry, you can optionally paint the ornaments with glow-in-the-dark paint for an extra magical effect. Let the paint dry completely.
- Use string or ribbon to hang your ornaments on the tree. Turn off the lights to see them glow beautifully in the dark!
Notes
Consider mixing in glitter for extra sparkle and swapping baking soda with white clay for sturdier ornaments.
