Description
Create beautiful celestial decorations with these easy-to-make baking soda galaxy ornaments, perfect for gifts or tree hangings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Cookie cutters (star, planet shapes)
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Glitter (optional)
- Acrylic sealer (optional)
Instructions
- In a pot, mix 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of cornstarch. Gradually add 1/2 cup of water while stirring. Cook over medium heat, continuously stirring until the mixture thickens, resembling a dough.
- Once thickened, remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Divide the dough into small portions. Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
- Preheat your oven to 175°F (80°C). Roll out the colored dough on a clean surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to create star and planet shapes. Place ornaments on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a straw to make a hole at the top of each ornament for hanging.
- Bake the ornaments for about 60 minutes or until they feel dry to the touch. Allow them to cool completely after baking.
- If desired, sprinkle glitter on the ornaments while still warm. Seal with an acrylic sealer for a glossy finish if you want added protection.
Notes
Consider mixing food coloring for unique hues, adding tiny beads for sparkle, or using different shapes and sizes for the ornaments.
