Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 3 cups cornstarch
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Rolling pin
  • Tree-shaped cookie cutters (or knife)
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Craft glue
  • Glitter or sequins (for decoration)
  • Paint (optional for additional design)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
  2. Stir gently until the mixture stops fizzing; then, add in 3 cups of cornstarch.
  3. Mix over medium heat until the dough thickens and forms a ball.
  4. Remove the dough from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  5. Knead the dough on a clean surface for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and pliable.
  6. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Use tree-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the trees, or you can use a knife for freehand designs.
  8. Place the cut-out trees on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Let the trees air dry for at least 24 hours, flipping them halfway through to ensure even drying.
  10. Once dry, use craft glue to add glitter or sequins to your trees. You can also paint them for a more colorful look!

Notes

For different textures, swap cornstarch with flour. Use natural dyes or spices instead of food coloring.
