Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • A shallow dish or tray
  • Pipe cleaners (green and brown for branches and trunks)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • String (for hanging, if desired)

Instructions

  1. Twist pipe cleaners together to form tree shapes.
  2. In a bowl, mix baking soda with water until fully dissolved.
  3. Slowly add vinegar to the baking soda solution.
  4. Pour the baking soda solution into the shallow dish.
  5. Optional: Add food coloring to the solution and stir.
  6. Place the pipe cleaner tree into the solution and let it sit for 24 hours.
  7. After 24 hours, observe the crystals forming; for denser crystals, leave them for 2-3 days.
