Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup water
  • Green and brown pipe cleaners
  • String or thread
  • Small bowl or container
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Glass jar or transparent cup
  • Spoon for mixing
  • Tray or plate (to catch excess liquid)

Instructions

  1. Shape the pipe cleaners into a tree trunk and branches shape, then attach the tree to a string and hang it in the glass jar.
  2. Combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1 cup of water in a bowl and stir until dissolved. Add food coloring if desired.
  3. Pour the mixture into the glass jar ensuring the tree is submerged, leaving some air space.
  4. Place the jar on a tray to catch leaks and let it sit undisturbed for 24-48 hours.
  5. After waiting, carefully remove the tree, admire the formation of crystals, and rinse if desired.

Notes

Experiment with different colors and shapes for unique designs. Crystals can last several weeks in a dry environment.
