Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Baking soda
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons White vinegar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • 34 Pipe cleaners per tree
  • A small bowl
  • A tray or cookie sheet
  • A tall glass or jar

Instructions

  1. Shape pipe cleaners together to form a tree shape.
  2. Insert the bottom of your tree into a small bowl or hold it upright in a jar.
  3. Combine 1 cup of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of vinegar in a separate bowl.
  4. Watch as the mixture fizzes and bubbles.
  5. Add 1/2 cup of water once the fizzing subsides, mixing until well combined.
  6. Color it with a few drops of food coloring if desired.
  7. Pour the crystal solution over the pipe cleaner tree, ensuring it’s well coated.
  8. Place the tree on a tray and leave it in a cool, dry area for a few hours or overnight.
  9. Check back periodically to see the crystals forming and growing on the tree.
