Description

Create a magical baking soda growing crystal snowman, merging science with creativity for a delightful winter craft.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • Mixing bowl
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Baking sheet
  • Wax paper
  • Optional: food coloring, decorations (like mini buttons, a hat, and a carrot for the nose)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of water. Stir well until fully dissolved.
  2. Stir in 1/4 cup of corn syrup until smooth.
  3. Cover a baking sheet with wax paper. Form snowballs from the baking soda mixture into a larger ball for the base, a medium one for the body, and a smaller one for the head.
  4. Place the snowman on the wax paper and let it dry for about 24 hours at room temperature, observing the crystal growth.
  5. Once dry, decorate your snowman with buttons, fabric hat, and fake carrot for the nose. Optionally sprinkle baking soda for a frosty look.

Notes

Customizable with food coloring, different shapes, and scented extracts for added fun.
