Description

An educational and fun craft project to create stunning baking soda crystals that mimic a frosted forest.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 2 cups water
  • Clear glass or jar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Baking sheet or tray
  • Small pipe cleaners (optional, for design)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by clearing a flat surface and laying down newspaper or a cover.
  2. In a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  3. Gradually stir in 1 cup of baking soda and watch it bubble and fizz.
  4. Continue stirring until completely dissolved, resulting in a clear mixture.
  5. If desired, add food coloring and stir until blended.
  6. Pour the solution into your clear glass, leaving some space at the top.
  7. Shape pipe cleaners and submerge them in the solution.
  8. Place jars on a baking sheet and leave undisturbed in a warm area for 24-48 hours.
  9. Check daily for crystal formation and color changes.
  10. Once desired growth is achieved, carefully remove crystals and let them dry on a paper towel.
