Description

Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (approximately 6 medium apples)
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, mix the oats, flour, softened butter, and a pinch of salt until crumbly.
  5. Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
  6. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

Notes

This recipe is easily customizable by experimenting with different apple varieties and sweeteners. Can be made gluten-free with special substitutions.
