Description
Festive and colorful critters perfect for your Independence Day celebrations.
Ingredients
- Red construction paper
- White construction paper
- Blue construction paper
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Glue stick or liquid glue
- Pipe cleaners (various colors)
- Markers or crayons
- Glitter (optional)
- Small pom-poms (optional)
Instructions
- Cut Shapes: Using red, white, and blue construction paper, cut out different shapes for the bodies of your bugs (e.g., circles, ovals).
- Layer: Glue layers together to create dimension; considering alternating colors for a patriotic effect.
- Wing Shapes: Cut out wing shapes from your construction paper (more red and blue for a coordinated look).
- Attach Wings: Glue the wings onto the back of the bug’s body. You can slightly bend the wings for a 3D effect.
- Pipe Cleaners: Cut pipe cleaners into small pieces and shape them into legs. Attach them to the underside using glue.
- Antennae: Cut two longer pieces of pipe cleaner, bend them into antennae shapes, and glue them to the top of the bug’s head.
- Glue googly eyes onto the bug’s face.
- Use markers or crayons to add any extra details such as stripes or spots.
- For a sparkling finish, sprinkle glitter on parts of the bug while the glue is still wet.
- Arrange your bugs in a festive display, either hanging from the ceiling or placed on tables.
Notes
Material swaps can include using old magazines or wrapping paper. Make sure to use non-toxic glue and paints if allergies are a concern.
