Description

A hands-on project that mimics fireworks using oil and food coloring, perfect for educational fun during the 4th of July!

Ingredients

  • Clear glass or plastic cup
  • Water
  • Cooking oil (vegetable oil works well)
  • Food coloring (multiple colors)
  • Spoon or small stick for stirring
  • Paper towels

Instructions

  1. Fill a clear cup about two-thirds full with water and observe the clarity.
  2. Pour a layer of cooking oil on top of the water until you have a thin oil layer.
  3. Using a dropper, slowly add drops of food coloring into the oil.
  4. Gently stir the mixture with a spoon or stick to create mesmerizing color dispersions.
  5. Take your time to watch how colors mix and interact!

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations or use natural dyes. Introduce edible glitter for a dazzling effect!
